Introducing Blue Royal
They were a musical romance over 10 years in the making. Canberra natives Cassandra Braslin and Ryan Papa never knew when they first crossed paths at seedy club nights Ryan DJ'ed at in the nation's capital in the early 2000's that years later they would form a stunning musical partnership.
This newly formed duo, Blue Royal will be releasing their debut album consisting of nine tracks of their unique blend of down-tempo electronica and trip hop music with hauntingly beautiful vocals into the world in January 2016 via Disc Wars Records. This will be the culmination of twelve months of working together after reconnecting in Sydney.
Cassandra and Ryan were both very busy on their own before this dream collab came to be. Ryan’s DJ career took him all over the world, including headlining the Resident Advisor Tour in 2003 and performing on Triple J’s Mixup alongside Underworld’s, Darren Emerson before settling in Sydney to work as a producer and engineer. His debut album, "Time Machine" showcased his distinctive underground house sound, which was both musical and textured. Ryan's recent focus is on down-tempo projects, incorporating live recorded instrumentation and organic sounds into his experimental approach to music writing.
Meanwhile, Cassandra Braslin made a name for herself working as an acoustic artist playing both covers and originals at weddings, coffee shops, and theatres throughout Canberra and Sydney. She has collaborated with both local and international producers creating music as widely as hip hop in Canada to pop in Brazil. In February 2015, Cassandra released her debut EP, ‘Five Ways’ – a collection of lush and layered original indie pop songs. From her sold out launch party at Foundry 616 and plays on FBi radio, she has been building a buzz around her dreamy vocals and seasoned songwriting.
This singer/ producer combo has managed to create their own unique sound in the vein of some of their favourite electronic acts Lamb, Portishead and Zero 7. The blend of genre and style in the moody, atmospheric music combined with Cassandra's strong yet airy and angelic vocals is a match which will leave your ears tingling for more.
You can catch Blue Royal in their first live performance at the next Spaceport 2 Arts and Hip Hop party on Saturday 28th November at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills. Discounted presale tickets still available from HERE!
