Freshly Squeezed Fridays is back in August with the return of Broken Tooth Entertainments head honcho Ciecmate. Renowned Emcee, producer, sound engineer and label manager, Ciecmate has been holding down the Australian Hip Hop scene for over 10 years. He will be hitting up the Lansdowne Hotel August 7 to launch his new release 'Limbo', alongside a massive lineup of killer acts.
Ciecmate at any given time is usually busy at work in the studio with several projects on the boil. Constantly honing his skills & refining his writing, recording & production techniques to reinvent himself with each new offering.
Recently Ciecmate put an EP together & sent it for manufacture onto vinyl but there were issues with the pressing when it came back from the plant. .. The covers were all printed though, which has left the project literally in Limbo while BTE looks to find a new manufacturer with a superior pressing to the last.
In the interim, Ciecmate has put together a release compiled of several previously recorded songs that had no particular projects they were intended to be included on. These songs were in LIMBO too.
After locating the right blend of new songs to include in this project, some Remixes from his solo album GAME OVER were added to the mix & two new remixes from previously released feature projects were also made.
The whole project was mixed together to give it the feel of a mix tape even though all the songs are original productions.
There are two bonus songs on this release AINT NOBODY is a cover version of the Chaka khan classic with a Ciecmate twist. Speaking on his achievements over the years as a Hip Hop artist/Label owner in Australia & how it makes him feel. This joint is impossible to get out of your head once you hear it.
BABYLON is a reggae infused Hip Hop monster which breaks down the origins of Babylon & why it is used as a slang word to describe Religious zealots, the shadow groups & authoritarian, oppressive elements of the establishment.
As an overall journey, LIMBO tells its own story of several thoughts lost in time. From as far back as 2006 present day with those very moments in time captured, filed away. Fossils, forgotten about, then eventually excavated, cleaned & polished up to be viewed again. The remixes bring it all together in a consistent way which remains relevant to the present day as the content is timeless.
