Channel Zero

  • Play Bar 72 Campbell St Surry Hills, NSW, 2010 Australia (map)

Through exposure from visiting international heavy weights like DJ Yoda, Peanut Butter Wolf, DJ Shadow and local artists like J-Red and Sampology to name just a few, there seemed to be a real buzz and momentum behind the emergence of the art form of AVDJ’ing. Then, it seems to have disappeared for a while… until NOW.

CHANNEL ZERO will bring Hip-Hop fans a revival of the somewhat forgotten art form of AVDJ’ing that’s been absent from the Sydney scene in recent years, ready to reaffirm its rightful place in Sydney Hip-Hop culture.

Like a live DJ set is a culmination of hours of rehearsals and practice to get it perfect and dance floor ready, AVDJ’ing applies the same process, then runs the visuals through the same feed as the turntables, utilising faders, effects and animations to enhance and create symbiotic visuals which interact with the music while you watch.

AVDJ’ing is basically the art of mixing cut up visuals and effects on a big screen and combining them with real time DJ’ing to create new clips and visual accompaniment to the live show, or as VJ Spook puts it, “It’s sorta like hosting you’re own episode of Rage through an old TV that you drumming on the top of to mess with the picture.”

Not to be confused with the Belgian Metal band or Canadian TV station, CHANNEL ZERO is a reference to the Public Enemy track, “She Watch Channel Zero”, a song about the dangers of falling into the imaginary world of Soap Operas and mind clogging television.
