---------------------------DAWN LAIRD---------------------------------
A rapper and producer from Newcastle, Dawn Laird is inspired by the likes of Run The Jewels, Erykah Badu, Horrorshow and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Her first single ‘Eva’ saw her enter the national scene in 2013. The lo-fi, piano heavy monologue was well received on Triple J Unearthed and nationwide community radio. Her follow up single 'Mel Blanc (I’m Fucked)' went on to receive similar praise for its clever wordplay and humorous perspective on self-destruction. Following the release of her 2015 3 track EP ‘Third Circle Raps’, Dawn has been working on her sophomore EP ‘Doreen’, set for release in 2017. The success of the first and second singles from ‘Doreen’, titled ‘Atlas’ and ‘Sandworms’, met with her uninhibited delivery, production, and charismatic live presence have gained Dawn what is now a devoted and substantial following and seen her open for Urthboy, Mantra, The Last Kinection, Dylan Joel, Coda Conduct, Mathas and more. In 2016, Dawn was included in Michelle Grace Hunder and Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore’s ‘Her Sound, Her Story’ portrait series of women in Australian music and also named one of the top 5 Newcastle artists to watch in 2017 by NewcastleLive.
